Consilia's Story

CONSILIA’S STORY

Consilia Uwamahoro is an entrepreneur in the Northern Province of Rwanda. She graduated the Kula Fellowship as a business investment award winner at the end of 2020 and has spent the last year building and growing her business. She entered our program as a coffee farmer looking to not only better her coffee business but also learn how to create additional sources of income to better support herself and her family. After many months of thinking, and dreaming, and working with her mentor to create a vision for what their lives could look like, Consilia and her family decide to create a business plan for a beekeeping business.

She had some past experience in beekeeping and the more she researched, the more she realized there was a need for honey in her local market. From there, Consilia created an exemplary business plan, detailing the projected profit, associated costs, and the strengths and opportunities as well as the challenges and threats she would undertake in starting the business. After reviewing her plan and witnessing her potential, Kula decided to invest in her business, and more importantly, in her.

Fast forward to today:

Consilia’s beekeeping business is THRIVING.

She started with 100 beehives and has already increased to a total of 150 beehives, growing her production from around 11lb of honey per day to 33lb+ per day. Through this growth, she was able to triple her monthly savings, expand her coffee farm by 50%, and purchase a cow to provide fertilizer for her farm and milk for her family. On top of all that accomplishment, she is also now able to afford school fees to send all of her children to school.

Consilia is well on her way to achieving her family’s dream of building their very own home and continuing to invest in the future of her children through the growth of her businesses, showing us that investing in entrepreneurs not only transforms the lives of individuals, but also provides access to opportunity for generations to come.

A very special thank you to Kregel & Company CPA for funding our 2020 business investments, so we can invest in remarkable women like Consilia.
